Choosing the right hearing aid for you

Wearing a hearing aid is a very personal thing and, for many, it’s something they wish to keep private.

There are varying degrees of deafness/hearing impairments, which means a hearing aid needs to be tailored to your specific problem. There’s also a range of hearing aid designs and sizes to suit each person.

Taking this into consideration, it’s important you research properly so that you find the right hearing aid for you. A good hearing aid website should provide you with all the information you need including; types of aids and what they do and prices, as well as free, impartial advice.

There are other ways of finding out about hearing aids. Talk to your doctor or a private company who can off you their advice. Hearing aids are more often than not provided by the NHS, so your doctor may be the best route to go down once you know what you want.

Prices

Unfortunately, hearing aids aren’t cheap, but they are a necessity if you have hearing problems. Making your life (as well as your hearing) a lot easier, is surely worth the money.

Prices of aids can range from £500 to £1500 depending on the make, model and its amplification.

If you are referred by your doctor for a hearing examination and it is deemed you need a hearing aid, you will be placed on a waiting list and you will receive a FREE aid – but bear in mind it may not be completely tailored to your needs.

Makes

There are a wide range of makes available including Siemens, Oticon, Starkey and Widex. Of course, it doesn’t really matter which make you have, it’s purely just a personal choice on the style and look of the aid you like.

Models

As you may, or may not be aware, there are different models of hearing aid – again purely for your personal preference. These include the discrete in-ear models, out of ear or over the ear models as well as a range of smaller, slim-line models.

Search online for more information on finding the right hearing aid for you or speak to your doctor. It’s always important, when purchasing something as important as this that you make the right choice.
