” Do not drink calories Beverages are unlimited these days. One cannot order an iced tea or a soft drink at a restaurant without being offered quick replenishes, or having the choice to grab them on your own. This way along with the drink, a lot of extra calories also go in. Asthma in young adults, those in their twenties and thirties is very similar to the childhood asthma. In fact most of the young adults who develop evident symptoms of asthma are those who have remained undiagnosed and therefore untreated in their childhood. Many children who have susceptibility towards chest infections and other bronchial disorders are often termed as “bronchial” children. They may be having asthma which does not get diagnosed. As adults they show signs and symptoms that can no longer be denied.
When asthma strikes a person in his or her middle ages it is a very different kind of disorder with very different kinds of symptoms and repercussions. Like when a person in his forties gets diagnosed with asthma it is usually non-hereditary and inheritance through the family history plays no role. Generally it is seen that in this stage in life asthma is usually of intrinsic or non-allergic type. Adult asthma is considered to be also more serious than the childhood asthma.
This is because it is more difficult to control and also because the unpredictability factor is very high. Also it strikes the women much more than the men, so there are clear indications that the disease is gender biased. Adults with asthma are more susceptible to allergy of aspirin and related drugs. In fact many times the adult asthma may remain hidden and then one day strike with full fury after getting an allergic reaction to aspirin. Also sulphite reactions, other allergies, chronic sinus problems and nasal polyps are also more common in adults.
Asthma is extremely common in the people as the age advances. In fact there are distinct indications that the frequency of asthma is rising with the advancement of age. Sometimes people do not show symptoms till they are well over sixty five years of age. But it is generally believed that such incidents are rare. Nearly one-third of all asthma cases begin in childhood and the early teens.
There are not many studies to confirm the exact statistics but it is believed that most people who get diagnosed with asthma at a later stage in life may not have been properly diagnosed earlier for asthma. This is because in adults especially in senior citizens the symptoms of coughing and wheezing are also associated with so many other diseases as well.
Another reason for this diagnostic failure in elderly is that the main perception of symptoms of asthma in senior citizens is that of chronic cough with production of mucous, while they may only show sudden bouts of wheezing. And this may be associated with emphysema or chronic bronchitis. But with breathing tests they show clear indications of asthma and respond well to conventional treatments of asthma.
Asthma triggers are very difficult to zero down to, in adults. As the age advances pin pointing them keeps getting more and more difficult. These triggers are also mostly associated with respiratory tract infections and air pollutants. As the age advances considerably there is a lot of confusing signals given out by the patients that may make the diagnoses difficult further still. Asthma symptoms may also be manifesting in the form of tightness in the chest, shortness of breath or cough.
They are also many times misinterpreted as cardio-vascular problems. The disturbance in the patterns of sleep that is associated with asthma may also be confused with urinary tract disorders. But many of the patients who are given a confirmed diagnoses for asthma after the age of fifty also are believed to have shown distinct symptoms earlier in their life, which may have either gone unnoticed or undiagnosed and untreated.
After the diagnosis is complete the next step is to take adequate precautions so as to not get caught unawares with the fury of an asthmatic attack. Most young people respond very well to conventional treatments. These coupled with some regular precautions and disciplined changes in the lifestyle make them lead healthy, happy and perfectly normal lives. Since they are in the prime of their lives and sexual activity is also important, it is advised to them to use a puff or two of inhaler before indulging in any sexual activity.
This is because the exercise factor involved in any normal sexual activity is equivalent to walking about six kilometres in an hour or can be compared to climbing about two to three flights of stairs in a few minutes. This may be very hectic for a person suffering with asthma. It is also worth mentioning that some of the drugs especially some corticosteroids taken for asthma may cause impotency or temporary decrease in sexual desires.
Asthma treatment in the elderly people my have several difficulties. There are many drug interactions with conventional asthma treatments. Glaucoma or high blood pressure medications such as beta blockers may enhance the symptoms of asthma. It is also seen that because of multiplicity of treatments in elderly people for various diseases happening all at the same time, the asthma medications may be required in smaller dosages. An average dose for a young adult may prove to be a toxic dose for an elderly patient.

Many people wonder if yoga can improve their muscle fitness. They recognize that yoga can help reduce stress and increase flexibility, but when it comes to increasing muscle fitness, they think it might be a little too ‘weak’ to do the job. The fact is that yoga can definitely make you stronger.
A study was conducted at the University of California at Davis. Ten college ‘coach potatoes’ adopted a yoga routine for eight weeks. Each week, they attended from two to four classes during which they spent 10 minutes on breath control, 15 minutes of warm up exercises, 50 minutes doing yoga asanas, and then 10 minutes of relaxation/mediation. At the end of the eight-week period, the researchers measured the students’ fitness and discovered that their muscular strength had increased by up to 31%, their muscular endurance improved by 57%, their flexibility increased by 188%, and their cardio respiratory fitness improved by 7%. These results are pretty amazing when you consider that the study was only conducted for eight weeks.
How can something that seems so benign have such a major impact on muscle fitness?
MUSCLE STRENGTH – Unlike traditional weight building exercises, in yoga your body provides the resistance. While you are not likely going to produce the bulked up muscles of some weight lifters, you will certainly increase your muscle strength.
Many poses in yoga are done very slowly or you stay in the posture for several breaths. It is much more challenging to your muscles to hold a pose or do it slowly than it is to allow momentum to move you through an action. I have been working out with weights for many years so my muscles are used to being strengthened. Yet, I have practiced certain yoga routines during which my muscles screamed for mercy and I actually had to get out of the pose and then resume it because my muscles were so challenged. I don’t often experience this during weight training sessions.
In addition, some balance postures such as Tree Pose and Shoulderstand require enormous muscle control in order to prevent you from falling over. This helps to build and strengthen your muscles.
MUSCLE BALANCE – In weight training, you isolate a specific muscle as you perform an exercise and this leads to a short, tightened muscle. The muscles you develop during yoga are more likely to be elongated, because while you are strengthening them, you are simultaneously lengthening them. You also do not focus on an isolated muscle, but actively recruit the smaller muscle groups as well. You truly work your entire body when you practice yoga.
Practicing yoga can help realign your muscles, so they are more balanced. Since you are not overworking any specific muscle group, you are less likely to get injured.
In addition to all its other benefits, yoga can help you improve muscle fitness. Whether you choose to use it as your primary means of strength training or you want it to supplement your other exercises, yoga can help your muscles grow fit, balanced, and strong.

Acne is a troublesome condition to deal with, especially for teenagers. Acne is usually larger than a single black head or a pimple. A person who suffers from acne usually has bumpy skin which is not good to looks at. Not only is the skin around the acne bumpy, but it is also reddish and looks like a blemish on the skin. Some teenagers also have a lot of these acne bumps on their face, which causes them to be socially introverted. Acne can cause havoc in a teenager’s life because there is so much peer pressure to look good and all the good qualities of that person get hidden because of the way they look.
Teenagers are extremely sensitive to acne, and it is very common among this age group. The eagerness to get rid of their acne is also very high among the teenagers, and they will do virtually anything to get rid of it. They are the easy prey for commercialized medicines who promise a lot through commercial and TV ads saying they will start looking young and beautiful again as soon as they start using the cream. Because of the desperation, many teens stop reasoning about whether or not it is worth it to spend money on something which may not work effectively.
Sometimes acne will disappear with age in teenagers. It can just be a passing phase because of their hormones which is causing the acne. Once the hormones settle down even the acne might disappear. But this phase is very difficult to understand because they may end up making a person look sick or diseased. It causes great discomforts to teens as they go to school and college and are constantly under pressure to look good. Teens are usually counseled by the doctors and are advised not to feel so bad. They use positive therapy along with the acne treatment for the teenagers.

While we cannot reverse the aging process or even stop or slow it down, we can help ourselves to stay younger longer. What do I mean? Our lifestyle patterns and habits are the biggest influences on the way we look, and even on how fast or how slow we age.
By changing our own lifestyles, we can both look and feel years younger. One of the most influential of all our lifestyle routines that tend to affect the way we look and the perception of our real ages by others is our stress levels. Many people overwork themselves, do not find time to exercise or even relax, and in fact do not even get a full five hours sleep minimum every night. We all know this, for it describes even our own lives, doesn’t it? So what does it have to do with the way we look and feel? The answer is everything. One of the reasons that we age is because our bodies become inefficient at producing the required hormones in the required amounts, and often the lack of one sets of a series of reactions or chain reactions. The growth hormone is one of the hormones generated by our bodies while we sleep. A lack of sleep would mean less growth hormone in the body which in turn would be a signal to the brain that our aging process has begun. This in turn would signal increased hormone releases for insulin, and decreased hormone releases for other hormones such as melatonin and DHEA. These in effect would result in the signs of aging such as increased diabetes risks, restless sleeps and fat buildups among others.
Another of our lifestyle habits that affects the way we look is our social habits. Smoking for one has been known to add years to a person’s age, primarily because smoking releases free radical toxins within our bodies which accelerate the aging process. Free radicals are produced by our bodies naturally, but habits such as smoking and increased exposure to the sun can force the release of more radicals than normal into our bodies. Free radicals have been proven to contribute to aging by attacking the cell structures of all organs within our bodies. Most visible is the skin, where we can see the breakdown of the skin’s cell structure by its loss of elasticity and underlying structure.
Finally, exercise is probably the most influential but least acknowledged of all habits that can affect the way we look for our age. Unlike the first two above which stimulate our aging process, exercise actually works the other way to slow it down. This works too ways. When we exercise, we keep our bodies fit and get rid of toxic chemicals faster, thereby releasing internal stress within our bodies and extending the life of each individual cell. Additionally, exercise keeps our minds fit as well. When we cleanse the body internally, our minds automatically feel released and cleansed as well, and this undoubtedly has the subconscious effect of making us feel younger, stronger and more relaxed as well.

Mesothelioma is a rare cancer that attacks the body’s mesothelial cells around the organs. The mesothelium provides a protective membranous lining for the internal organs and allows moving organs (i.e. the heart and the lungs) to glide easily against adjacent structures. The names of the three regions of mesothelial cells that provide protective coating are 1) pleura, the sac which surrounds the lungs; 2) peritoneum, the lining which protects the abdominal cavity; and 3) pericardium, the sac which surrounds the heart. Three different types of mesothelioma cancer attack these three different regions.
Pleural mesothelioma: A type of lung cancer which attacks the pleura surrounding the lungs, this is the most common type of mesothelioma, affecting approximately two-thirds of all mesothelioma patients. Symptoms include horseness, fever, blood in sputum, swollen arms and face, coughing, loss of weight, difficulty breathing, chest pain, weak muscles, and reduced tactile sensitivity.
Peritoneal mesothelioma: A cancer of the abdomen which attacks the peritoneum lining the abdominal cavity. This affects approximately one-third of all mesothelioma patients. Symptoms include abdominal bloating, impaired bowl function, fever, swollen feet, and nausea.
Pericardial mesothelioma: This form of mesothelioma which attacks the pericardium surrounding the heart is extremely rare. Symptoms include chest pain, dyspnea, cough, and palpitations.
Mesothelioma has been linked to asbestos exposure. Asbestos is a type of building material used in thermal insulation products and ceiling tiles. In the United States, asbestos usage peaked during the 1950s – 1970s. During the late 1960s, concerns over the health consequences of asbestos exposure began to arise, thereby decreasing the amount of asbestos manufactured in next two decades. By the 1980s, a new industry of asbestos abatement began to flourish. But according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as many as 733,000 schools and public buildings still contain asbestos.
Small asbestos fibers that enter the air do not evaporate and can remain suspended in the air for a long time. These fibers, when breathed into the body, are toxic. There are three types of asbestos exposure.
Occupational asbestos exposure: People working in factories that manufacure asbestos are likely to have a high exposure to asbestos and are most at risk of developing asbestosis or mesothelioma.
Paraoccupational asbestos exposure: Family members of workers exposed to asbestos in the workplace are susceptible to exposure from asbestos dust brought home by the worker on his clothes or skin.
Neighborhood asbestos exposure: Those who live in the vicinity of an asbestos manufacturing plant are also at risk.
Mesothelioma is still a relatively rare form of cancer. There are an estimated 2,000 – 3,000 new cases per year in the United States. Approximately 7-13 per one million male patients with a history of asbestos exposure contract mesothelioma. Diagnosis usually occurs 20-40 years after initial exposure to asbestos.

We can have a diet using negative calories. The main idea is that our body uses more calories to digest some aliments than the calories we know those aliments contain themselves by analyzing the combination of nutritional components of the specific aliments. If we burn more calories than we consume, then we will lose weight.
The theory is in fact very appealing: the body has to consume energy in order to digest the food. For example, an orange has about 50 calories. To process all nutritional components and vitamins that an orange contains, our body will burn more than just 50 calories.
The diet using negative calories is more a solution we can call on in some specific periods, when our body is overwhelmed with nutrition, like holidays, Christmas, New Year’s, birthdays, weddings, and less of a solution that can be used on a long term.
Some specialists say that the lost of weight is obtained mostly by losing parts of the muscular tissue, which is not recommended at all.
So if you decide to use the diet with negative calories keep in mind the following:
1 – Make sure it is done in a period your body has already too many calories stored and you won’t be affecting your health by doing this.
2 - Ask a medic if you can resist only eating this types of aliments and also ask him the time limit for this diet in your case so you can avoid getting sick.
3 – Try to combine them as much as you can, do not eat just oranges or other fruits that contain citric acid as they are not good for your stomach activity when eaten in huge quantities.
4 - Review your schedule for the days you want to use this diet and make sure you don’t have any important or stressful things to do. Stress also causes caloric burn and weight reduction and if it occurs during a diet that weakens the organism you can feel physically powerless. If such a thing happens give up on the diet and eat something with many calories and glucoses fast.
If all above points are checked and passed you can start a negative calories diet and give a try to actually eating something instead of taking slim pills and drinking tea.

It is well documented from scientific research all over the world for many years that physical exercise contributes significantly to weight loss. I will not dwell on this issue fore it is so obvious, but just mention the simple fact that weight loss is a function of the net calorie intake.
If you burn more calories than you take in thorough nutrition, you lose weight and vice versa. When you exercise you burn more calories then when you don’t. So the buttom line is: All other factors equal, the more you exercise the more weight or fat you’ll lose. That’s really simple.
2. Preventing Disease
The probability of developing a large number of various diseases has been proven to decrease dramatically thanks to physical exercising. These include;
heart disease
cancer
diabetes
stroke
About 4/5’s of deaths caused by heart disease and cancer, are linked to life-style factors like stress and lack of physichal training. We also know that diabetes increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. This shows that many of the risk factors and diseases caused by inactivity are working together to damage your health. 4. Enhance your mental health
We know from many scientific studys that regular exercising leads to an increased release of endorphins in the body. These chemicals help combat depression and make us feel happier. The body releases these endorphins after only 12 minutes into the workout.
Another chemical called serotonin is increased during and after a workout session. Increased levels of serotonin in the central nervous system is associated with feelings of well-being and decreased mental depression. It also helps you feel less tired which can increase your mental alertness. It also helps you sleep better.

When you are in a good shape and fit you’ll feel more upbeat, and your overall mood is improved. You have experienced that you can stretch your own limits, you know you are capable to do more than before you started to exercise. This gives you a feeling of wellness that’s difficult to describe.
Let’s do an experiment: Do an hour of workout today; do whatever you want like walking, bicycling, swimming, jogging, running whatever. Adjust the intensity of the training so that you sweat really good. Then take a shower and sit down. Feel yourself. Now you know what I mean.
6. Increase your persistence
Regular exercising gives you more energy, which can make you more productive at home and at work. Exercise can give you new goals and a sense of purpose – you have something positive to focus on and aim for. Heart diseases have become a common occurrence in recent times. Out of the numerous factors, the presence of high cholesterol level accounts for chief reason for triggering cardiovascular diseases. High cholesterol levels can be checked by following a prescribed regimen including diet and exercise. People who are genetically predisposed to high cholesterol levels are at a greater risk of acquiring heart diseases. Hence their diet should be regulated with great care so as to avoid any fatal complications. Research suggests that around 70% of the world population consume food containing high cholesterol levels. For instance, some of the most loved foods like pizza, burger, French fries, salami, ice-cream etc are replete with high cholesterol levels, not to speak of those unhealthy fats. Besides, the fillings used in these fast foods like red meat, eggs, cheesecake, and mayonnaise also kick up the cholesterol levels. But when your health is at risk, it advisable to switch to an alternative diet and pick up new healthy food habits.
One of the biggest problems faced when trying alternate food is the lack of taste satisfaction. Those with a sweet tooth do not find the taste of zero calorie sweeteners satisfying. To combat such situations, use of sweeteners derived from natural sources like plants is helpful. Alternatives to red meat are many- turkey, chicken, fish are the ideal ones. For the egg lovers, consuming egg white is just as good. Healthy substitutes of milk products like cheese, mayonnaise and butter are available at your local grocery store. Though chalking out a nutritious menu can be quite challenging, it’s none the less worth undertaking so as to lead a risk-free and healthy life. One can also avail the help of online sources or a local bookstore for more guidance. Besides, a little awareness on one’s part about the right kind of food is always helpful. Staying away from colorings and food preservatives is highly essential. Diet supplements like oatmeal have been scientifically proven to lower high cholesterol levels.
The presence of fiber in oats sweeps off excess cholesterol through the intestines. With more than 35 scientific studies proving their essential worth, oats have become one of the most preferred diet supplements to check high cholesterol levels. Apart from oatmeal, red rice yeast also works wonders to significantly lower high cholesterol levels. Cooking in virgin olive oil is another great way to combat the risk of high cholesterol in the blood. These cooking and food alternatives do play a vital role in keeping the heart in a healthy condition. However, diet regimens do require assistance of exercise to ward off greater chances of cholesterol heart disease.
